Cumberland County: Art Institutions by Municipality

Glass made Cumberland County the heart of South Jersey's art, from WheatonArts and Millville's Glasstown Arts District to the historic theatres of Vineland and Bridgeton.

CreARTivity Educational Team

Cumberland County is the beating heart of South Jersey’s art, and glass is the reason why. Millville’s Glasstown Arts District draws visitors from around the world to WheatonArts and a cluster of galleries, studios and a restored theatre along High Street; Vineland and Bridgeton add historic theatres and downtown galleries; and out on the Bayshore, a tall ship keeps a maritime story alive. What follows is a guide to those spaces, gathered town by town.

A quick note: opening hours, locations, websites and programming can change over time. Please confirm the details with each venue before you plan your visit.

No county in South Jersey wears its art more openly than Cumberland, where a century of glassmaking still shapes the galleries and studios of Millville. Beyond the doors listed here, the Bay-Atlantic Symphony fills concert halls across the region, and the county’s historical societies keep watch over its past. Next in the series we close the map with our final county, one town at a time.

Author

  • The Educational Team writes CreARTivity’s reference work: histories of artistic disciplines, guides to cultural traditions, and the county-by-county surveys of arts institutions across New Jersey. Its brief is to be useful to someone meeting a subject for the first time and still worth reading to someone who already knows it. Edited by Marie Juliane David.
