Double opt-in confirmation
We use a double opt-in process. After you submit a subscription form, we send a confirmation email to the address you provided, and your subscription becomes active only when you click the confirmation link. Our email service provider
We use Kit (formerly ConvertKit) to manage subscriptions and send emails on our behalf. Kit stores and processes subscriber information, including email addresses and subscription status, as a service provider acting on our instructions. What we send
Subscribers receive our weekly newsletter, sent on Sundays, with an interview or portrait, an explainer, a reading list, and what is on this week. They may also receive occasional announcements about new resources and updates related to arts, culture, and creativity. Reading lists may include affiliate links, as explained in the Advertising and Affiliate Links section below. Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time.
Subscriber-only content
Some content on the website, such as full newsletter issues, is reserved for subscribers. To unlock this content, you may be asked to enter your email address, which we check against our subscriber list through Kit. The address you enter is used only to verify your subscription status and is not added to any list. When verification succeeds, we place a small cookie in your browser so you are not asked to verify again on every visit. This cookie contains no personal information, only a signed access token, and expires after approximately 90 days.
Managing your subscription

Subscribe pop-up
Our subscribe pop-up may appear after you have spent about two minutes on the website. To avoid showing it too often, your browser stores a few small items: a timer, the date the pop-up was last shown, how many times it has been shown, and whether you have subscribed. These items stay in your browser and are not sent to us. The pop-up is shown to a visitor at most three times, and no sooner than seven days apart. It is not shown to people who have already subscribed.
