Union County kicks off Haitian Heritage Month on Friday, May 1, 2026, with a flag raising ceremony at 4 p.m. on the steps of the County Courthouse at 2 Broad Street in Elizabeth. The courthouse will glow blue and red that evening and again on Monday, May 18, for Haitian Flag Day. Inside the Administration Building, a gallery exhibit on the sixth floor gathers work by local Haitian artists, free and open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout May. Three of the county’s commissioners are of Haitian heritage and are leading the program. The full calendar lives at ucnj.org/haitianheritage.
